Dr. Bala Manian, Board Advisor
Bala is one of Silicon Valley’s most successful and prolific entrepreneurs. Bala is an international expert in Optics and Biotechnology and is the inventor of the barcode reader and film-less X-rays. Bala is the Founder of 8 successful companies including Biometric Imaging Inc. (acquired by Becton, Dickinson and co) & Lumisys Inc. (NASDAQ: LUMI; later acquired by Eastman Kodak). Bala has an Academy Award for special effects on Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies, holds 33 patents, and holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University.
Shigeharu Ochi, Technical Board Advisor
Shigeharu Ochi is the inventor of the digital camera which he invented while at Fuji Photo Film. He is an expert in digital imaging and is one of the co-authors of the JPEG image coding standard. He currently heads business development at InvenSense which is a world leader in providing embedded motion sensors for stability control in digital cameras.
Dr. Noriyoshi Osumi, Board Advisor
Dr. Osumi has a long and distinguished career in growing communication technology companies in Japan and the US. Dr. Osumi was formerly the executive Vice President of NTT Americas where he was primarily responsible for NTT’s investments in the US. A distinguished technologist himself, Dr. Osumi established the NTT Multimedia Communications Laboratory and was the Chief Research Engineer of Intelligent Systems Labs in Japan, one of the largest security firms in the world. Dr. Osumi also served as a Board Director of Commerce One. Dr. Osumi holds a PhD in Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology and an MBA from Cornell University.
Dr. Keith Randall, Technical Board Advisor
Dr. Randall is on extended leave from Google where he joined in 2001 and was technology lead for the world’s largest advertising network, Google AdWords and Google AdSense. Prior to this, Keith worked for Compaq's System Research Center (formerly DEC) on a variety of topics including Java virtual machines, compilers, and web graphs. Keith holds a PhD in Super Computing from MIT.
