XL funbook and PixSense use mobile social networking to raise awareness and funds for earthquake victims in Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia, October 8, 2009: In the wake of the 7.6 magnitude massive earthquake that struck Indonesia and in response to the widespread suffering and devastation of Indonesian people, PT Excelcomindo Pratama, Tbk. has enabled its subscribers to actively participate in relief efforts through its mobile social networking service, “funbook”.

Partnering with PixSense, a US Mobile Social Networking Platform provider, XL has been able to create an easy to use mechanism for subscribers to make donations to relief efforts through SMS/texting.

“It is a time of great loss and tragedy”, said P. Nicanor V. Santiago III, the Director of Marketing of XL, “Considering our vast user base, I believe our efforts will be able to reach more people directly and raise funds that will prove to be invaluable to those in need. XL funbook mobile subscribers should send an SMS/text the keyword SUMBAR to 2000 (for donation Rp 2000) & send to 5000 (for donation Rp 5000) to directly help relief efforts.”

He also added that “We realize that millions of people want to be able to help in the relief efforts but aren’t sure how to. We want to help our subscribers make the difference they want and we’ve made that process as easy as sending an SMS.”
